Keys to defrost and how to clean a freezer that smells bad

Many a times we store food in the refrigerator and completely forget about it.

The food packets or boxes keep gathering frost and become stuck to the surface of the freezer.

Thus, the freezer becomes a huge mess and cleaning it a task which seems impossible to deal with.

CMP > House Cleaning Toronto, understands your problem and thus brings to you some very simple tips and methods for defrosting and cleaning the freezer.

7 Steps to Defrost & How to Clean a Freezer that Smells Bad:

Many modern freezers do not need to be defrosted as they contain automatic defrosters spending 35% more energy than the ordinary freezers.

The self-defrost cycle absorbs moisture from frozen food that can negatively affect their quality.

However, in case you do not have an automatic defrosting freezer, you should follow these steps:

Step 1:

You should turn off the freezer so that the process of defrosting starts.

Then wait for the ice to melt so that you can take all the components out easily.

People usually use a hairdryer to make the process go quickly, however we recommend that you go through the process naturally. The reason for this is the risk of electric shock that a hair dryer brings with it when you are using it in a wet area.

Step 2:

Next, start emptying the contents.

Get all the food containers and boxes out from the freezer.

Step 3:

If there is stubborn frosting within the freezer still,  put pots of warm water in the stack to melt it.

Step 4:

After the ice has completely melted, start absorbing it with a sponge, paper towels or washcloths.

Step 5:

When the freezer is clear of melted ice and water, clean the interior with a soft paste of baking soda and water. The soda absorbs odors and eliminates persistent food residues.

Step 6:

Dry the shelves and cabinets of the freezer thoroughly so that you are satisfied with the cleaning process.

Step 7:

Connect the power to the freezer.

Leave at least 15 minutes before replacing the food.

We hope that you would have obtained enough useful insight into effectively defrosting and cleaning your freezer.

We would recommend that you do not use use ice picks, knives or sharp instruments to remove ice from the freezer walls. They can do damage not only to the fridge but to you too.

Moreover, do not use soap to clean the freezer as it becomes difficult to get rid of it after the cleaning is over.
