How to Make a Scented Disinfecting Spray

Products Required

In this project we’re using vodka, coconut oil soap, and peppermint, tea tree, and frankincense essential oils to make a disinfecting spray that’s non-corrosive, environmentally friendly, and can cut your sicknesses in half.

Complete Process

Let’s start by adding 2/3rd of a cup of water into this empty spray bottle. Now let’s have 1/3rd of a cup of Vodka. Vodka is basically ethanol, also known as ethyl alcohol. Ethanol kills bacteria! The way our skin wraps around our body, the same way lipid membranes surround bacteria. Ethanol attacks and dissolves these lipid membranes. It basically de-skins bacteria. Then, ethanol enters bacterial bodies and denatures their proteins. It basically breaks down their machinery so they cannot function anymore.

Video Explanation

Now, we add 2 tablespoons of coconut oil soap. You’re probably wondering why coconut oil soap? Well, coconut oil has the wetting agent dodecanoic acid in it. This acid acts like the superhero Captain America. It uses inspiration and combines with vodka, our Batman who creates fear. Captain-Bat or in other words our dodecanoic acid-vodka combo inspires fear like no other. Together, they attack and kill a wide range of bacteria, fungi and viruses.

Now that we’ve added these superheroes into our mixture, let’s add some appealing outfits and weapons. We add 5 drops of Frankincense essential oil, which is our base perfumery note. Its woody and slightly spicy and fruity smell lingers for hours! Now let’s add 5 drops of tea-tree essential oil, which is a middle note. Tea-tree has the chemical terpinen-4-ol in it, which kills microbes and helps fight colds. Last, we add 5 drops of peppermint essential oil, which is our high note. Peppermint essential oil has a high menthol content, which gives us a nice cooling sensation and actually relaxes our muscles. This oil also has pulegone, which is a strong insecticide and pesticide. This disinfecting blend of essential oils creates a natural, woody and fruity smell to complement the coconut oil soap.

Now, we just close it up, shake and spray! We can use this armored superhero spray to disinfect bathroom surfaces, kitchen chopping boards, and much more.
