1. Bicarbonate

Sprinkle one tablespoon of baking soda or bicarbonate in the bottom of the garbage can.

Place trash bag on top and remember to repeat the process once a week.

2. Citrus Juice

Make sure that there is no hole at the bottom of the trash can first.

Squeeze citrus juice from a half orange, lemon, or grapefruit and pour it in the bottom of the trash can. Let it dry.

Place a trash bag in the can.

Repeat the process every week after cleaning the trash can with a damp cloth.

3. Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is an essential oil which has a pleasant smell.

Sprinkle a mixture of tea tree oil and a cup of water each day throughout the dustbin before placing the trash bag. Besides eliminating odors, the tea tree and water solution helps avoid insects.

4. Cinnamon

Boil a cinnamon stick in one cup of water. After the boiling is complete, sprinkle it in the trash bin.

You can also wipe the bin with a cloth soaked in the mixture. Cover the bin internally with a trash bag and it is ready to use.

5. Sand

If you have a cat, you might also have sand which you use for the litter box.

Cover the bottom of the trash bucket with a 5cm layer of cat litter sand.

The sand will absorb the garbage smell easily. Change the sand every two weeks.
